Musescore 4: Voltas

• Dec 28, 2022 - 19:59

It took a little work but I thought I had figured out how to make good use of repeats and Voltas in Musescore 3.
Now that Musescore 4 is out I'm using it right away on the next project.
I am using a Volta at the end of a repeat to play the last 2 measures of the repeat on the first iteration. On the second iteration of the repeat it should exit the repeat at the start of Volta #1 and play Volta #2.
Instead, what it does is plays the repeat one time, including the last 2 measures in Volta #1, exists the repeat (never attempts to play it the second time), skips the Volta #2, and picks up on the first measure after Volta #2.

I had no problems with voltas in MS3; but MS4 has me stumped.

Another side affect in MS4.... If I select a note and hit play I never know where it will start from. Sometimes its some other measure... Other times it starts at the beginning.

With any major new release there's always a phase of regression bugs. I'm hoping that is the case with voltas.

Thanks,

Saweet! I should have thought of that. It's not obvious why dropping the measure should matter, but since the voltas seem to be more like properties of the measure, instead of standalone objects I can see where that might make sense.

I had issues with the first volta initially... When I dropped the first one but left the second one in place it caused MS4 to crash when I tried to add the first one in. Every time.

Whatever was causing the crash must have been impacting the measure properties.

Fortunately, I was always able to open the file after the crash.

Thanks again for looking into this. It may be a while before MS4 stabilizes.
