Delay in response when inputting notes, v.4

I just updated to MuseScore 4 and started transcribing some music. I am using a MacBook Pro and inputting from the computer's keyboard, not from external keyboard. There is a delay when I input a note and the note itself takes a longer time to sound: the result is that my fingers are going faster than the notes, creating a rather confusing experience. Is there some way to adjust this so that the notes come faster or is this just the new MuseScore reality?
