Improve Keyboard Shortcut Menu

• Jan 6, 2023 - 20:53

I fiddle around with keybinds a lot. I would appreciate:
1. if it were easier to find keyboard shortcuts by allowing us to search for commands by inputting a button press (how Steinberg does it)
2. if it keyboard shortcuts were sorted into folders (kind of like Dorico, but it would be better if they auto-expanded when searched for)
3. Most importantly, if alternate keybinds could be assigned to the same commands within the same profile/preset or whatever it's called. I'm surprised this isn't a feature actually.

Thanks for taking a look!

I have a similar requirement. You may already be able to do what you want, albeit in a slightly convoluted way, by examining and modifying the XML file that defines the key bindings. You can export that file from the Preferences | Shortcuts dialog box, but I've put a cleaned up version here...

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HSTUTHyAUCgUOO_nQnoE8yOYv8VbzZR5GIw…

I've started to analyse that file to work out which shortcuts I want to learn first, how shortcuts are grouped by key (ALT, CTRL, SHIFT, etc) and also to see what default shortcuts I can redefine for another use.

My 'work in progress' analysis is here...

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZvTjp0LA8h8U9YZvHc6MgMWl5nZeatIrQEe…

It appears that you can define multiple key bindings to a single operation. Here's one of the default bindings...

full-measure-rest
Ctrl+Shift+Del
Ctrl+Shift+Backspace

It also appears (though I've not yet tried it) that you can define a multi-step binding. Here's one already defined...

clef-violin
Ctrl+Y,Ctrl+1

Hope that's of some help.
