Scores Backup

• Jan 9, 2023 - 11:24

Dear community,

Since I am now saving all my scores online (with MS4) I am wondering if there is a way to make backups from time to time of all of my online scores ?

Indeed I would like to avoid the risk of deleting by mistake a score or that MuseScore database is compromised.

Thank you

Hi,

I have just made a test: if I donwload a score saved online and I update it then the new version is not saved online.

Do you have any backup on your side in case of scores are wrongly deleted or your database is corrupted ?
I mean is it possible to request the restore of a score ?

Thank you

You need to keep a watchful eye on the URL which is recorded when you Save Online. In MS3 look in File > Score Properties > Source , and in MS4 check File > Project properties > Source. To update a score which already exists online, the Source property must contain the URL of the online score.

For important files I manage with a single instance on my PC and a single instance created by Save Online. All my experience has been with MS3 (and earlier with MS2), so I cannot yet advise you about the MS 4.0 workflow.

As far as I know there is no possibility of asking for the restoring of an online score, whether the score was deliberately deleted by the user or was destroyed by a corruption online.

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your feedback.

I would like to have an answer from MuseScore regarding this simple question: how do you ensure that a score wrongly deleted / compromised / lost can be restored ?

For Cloud solutions backups are mandatory.

Do you know how can I ask to MuseScore directly ?

Thank you

If the deleted file is on your own PC, then either you can look for an automatic backup on your PC or you can download the version which was stored online.
For local files on your PC, these links are helpful:
- Recovered files (MuseScore 3 Handbook) - https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/recovered-files
- How to recover a backup copy of a score (MuseScore HowTo) - https://musescore.org/en/node/52116

The whole online operation (online scores, website, mobile apps) is run on musescore.com, but please don't expect any detailed advice from there (support@musescore.com).

To be fair, this question of file recovery of an online file is not really for MuseScore - it's more a question of general file management on a computer. You would do best to consult a computer-savvy friend or your local PC repair shop.
