Musescore 4.0.0 discretely changing # of beats per bar has odd behavior

I'll go into Bar Properties to change a 6/8 measure to 7/8, and instead of lengthening the real-time duration of that measure, it'll simply "eat" one of the beats from the next bar, leaving the original measure still at 6/8, but the next one at 5/8, and completely inaccessible. No selection of the bar, nothing. Undoing several times to bring the second bar back from 5/8 to 6/8 yields no results until I go far back enough to find the time I first pasted any notes in that bar.
