How to create ligature brackets (custom lines above notes) in MuseScore 4

• Jan 14, 2023 - 19:08

Hi, I am notating some medieval music, and want to use some ligature brackets (they look like brackets over triplets, but without the 3). I have seen discussions about how to create these before in earlier versions of MuseScore, but those techniques do not seem to work in MuseScore 4. I can add a line above two notes, but I cannot add the two bracket lines at either end. Anyone have a way to do this?

I have exactly the same problem. In the line properties you can only choose a vertical stroke at the end, not at the beginning. In Musescore 3.6.2 you could. Actually I expected them to correct this shortcoming soon, but unfortunately sofar they haven’t. A workaround might be to begin the score in version 3, place your first ligature bracket, save and open the file in version 4, where you can copy the bracket to paste it above other notes. This copying and pasting works in Musescore 4, but didn’t in version 3. Of course you may have to adjust the width and precise placement.
