Solved: MuseScore 4: score folder not updating and browse won´t show all folders

• Feb 15, 2023 - 22:57

So I did a release upgrade and have noticed some issues.

First thing, first:

System:
Kernel: 5.15.0-60-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 11.3.0
Desktop: Cinnamon 5.6.7 tk: GTK 3.24.33 wm: muffin vt: 7 dm: LightDM 1.30.0
Distro: Linux Mint 21.1 Vera base: Ubuntu 22.04 jammy
CPU:
Info: quad core model: Intel Core i7-4790

Issue 1: Can´t change scores' directory.

On Edit > Preferences > General > Folders > Scores, I have /mnt/toshiba/Violão/Scores
On Diagnostic > System > Show Paths, I don't see that path (see attached MuseScore 4 - Paths.png)

Issue 2: Save As is saving on a directory other than the one defined (/mnt/toshiba/Violão/Scores). (See attached MuseScore 4 - Save As.png)

Issue 3: Can't navigate to directories outside MyDocuments.

All my scores are stored at mello@olinda:/mnt/toshiba/Violão/Scores$ and when I try to navigate from the Save As menu, I only can get to /mnt/toshiba/Documents/MuseScore4. No other other directory is available under /mnt/toshiba, but there are several:

mello@olinda:/mnt/toshiba$ ls
aderbal lost+found scripts
'Back-up Pernambuco VM' MakeMKV temp
Camera music vbox_vms
DL380 MusicTemp veeambkp
Documents 'NAS script' video_download
Downloads quicken_backups Violão
'Introdução ao sistema tonal 1.m4v' Renamed 'VMware vCenter Server'

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Regards,
Al

Image "...Save As.." : how you come to wander into the /run system directory to save ANYthing is way beyond my understanding. I suggest you STAY AWAY from /run

Image "...can't see all..." : here, I suggest you navigate DEEPER from the point you're at, INTO MuseScore4, for a start. There, you might be able to see all your folders. And perhaps the 'Scores' folder, where MS4 normally saves to.

Image "...Paths" : I see '/mnt/toshiba' -- which is a different storage location from '/home/mello' which I think is no big deal. It is just how you have your system configured. On my Ubuntu 20.04 KDE, if you compare to your situation, there are more '/home//' paths, meaning, maybe, a more 'conventional' setup for MuseScore...

Thanks for your reply.

What I've described was a application behavior. I'm linux savvy enough to know how to navigate directories.
It seems to be a problem with the installation from the Flathub, as the appimage install didn't have the same issues, so if someone is running Mint and the release upgrade also upgraded your Musescore 3.x to 4, try to remove it and install from the appinstall manually, if you are experiencing the same issues I've described.
That solved my problems.

Those of us who offer to review & help never know the degree of 'savvy' a poster has... Good you have it. As a BIG for-what-its-worth, I avoid Flatpack (is that where 'Flathub' comes from?) and especially Snap installation methods like the plague. It was largely because of knowledgeable folk here explaining the advantages of AppInstall - type executables that I've come to like that method. It was probably inevitable that Flatpack & Snap came to be. At least Linux users have some optional ways to do things...
