Add a voice.

• Feb 25, 2023 - 19:52

In the music piece shown I want to separate the lowest bass notes (D in fist bar) so that they last the whole bar AND make it easier to play (left hand pinky on the lower D) and right hand the arpeggio. Do I need a new voice to do this?
PS I have used AnthemScore to produce this from mp3.
Any other suggestions appreciated as I'm a beginner.

Many thanks.

Yes thanks. It says 'Select your starting point.' I have tried to find what this is. If I remove the note I need to change voice in, select the first note (the note above it, starting point?) and follow with select note input and then cmd-3 as I have a Macbook and add the note it removes the other notes. So I guess I have not got another voice even though the note appears to be separate from the others. I have tried to find the toolbar icon for voices and can only see '2 . 1' but that does nothing. I assume therefore I do not have more than two voices and see no means of adding one. Thanks.

You only need two voices. Read the whole of that section on how and when to use voices first.

Each stave has up to 4 voices. Voice 1 is always present in each stave. Use the other voices in numerical order in each stave. so for a second voice in the upper stave use voice 2 in that stave. For a second voice in the lower stave use voice 2 in that stave.

In the very rare case that you might need more than two voices you can enable the voice 3 and voice 4 buttons by customising the toolbar. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/toolbars-and-windows#Customizing_co…
