Corrupted file - can't publish and can't open in Musescore 3.6.2 to identify corruption

• Feb 26, 2023 - 01:58

My file is somehow corrupted but it won't open in 3 to try to identify the problem, as directed in other threads. It just opens as a single blank page when I try that.

Is there anything else I can try? Thankfully it's still there and I can open it by ignoring the corruption, but I can't publish it.

I was able to find the corruption by going note by note. Thankfully after deleting that measure I was able to open and publish.

This thread can be closed. Am I correct that opening in musescore 3 is still the best suggested fix if it happens again (if I can't locate the corruption?)

It depends.
Sometimes MS4 generates (however this happens) measures with unusual lengths. MS3 states the type of corruption and the location - MS4 does not (yet). So this may help.
But MS4 sometimes stores totally erronous files which cannot be repaired.
My recommendation: for the time being still use MS 3.6.2 for serious production. You can open these files in MS 4 too for better sound reproduction and perhaps engraving. Be careful: don't override your MS 3.6.2 files with MS4 files.

Seems I hone in on posts a day or more older with 0 responses, mostly to suggest the poster attach their score. Either the poster prefers to keep their piece really private, OR they're new to the Forum, and don't realize WE are willing to LOOK at their problem. And I agree wholeheartedly with HildeK below about sticking with 3.6.2 until MS4.x at least reaches v4.2 or so.
