Cannot add lefthand fingerings in guitar tablature

• Mar 18, 2023 - 03:03

I have gone through all the alternative methods displaying fingerings in guitar tablature. In 'Advanced Style Properties" of "Staff/Part Properties" I see that "Show fingering in tablature" is checked. I click OK and then OK, but the fingerings are not showing.

Something is wrong here!

Are you working with a linked tablature staff or a stand-alone tablature staff?

I remembered some strangeness, so I went in to check.

Regarding linked tablature staves

With "Show fingering in tablature" unchecked

   • You can add fingerings only to a linked treble clef, and they will show only in the treble staff
   • attempts to add fingerings directly to the linked tablature staff will fail.
   • Fingerings added in this state will not display when you toggle "Show fingering in tablature" on. *

With "Show fingering in tablature" checked

    • previously entered fingerings appear in tablature staff (but only if entered with Show Fingering checked!*)
    • newly added or deleted fingering in either staff update the other
    • as expected their appearance toggle with the state of "Show fingering in tablature"

  * COMMENT: The state of "Show fingering in tablature" should not impact whether the fingerings exists in the tablature staff, just whether they should display or not.

Example of issue:

The user has "Show fingering in tablature" unchecked. Later they decide they want the fingerings display in the tablature too, so they check "Show fingering in tablature." But no fingerings display in the tablature and they have to reenter all the fingerings with "Show fingering" checked. Once that is accomplished they can toggle fingerings on/off as one would expect.

I created a fresh post for this today. I cannot add a fingering to a TAB. The menus all look correct. Something is wrong. I cannot drag a fingering from the left-hand Guitar drop down (such as '0') onto a TAB string. I can only drag it onto a TAB.
