Musescore 4 MIDI entry crashing

• Mar 29, 2023 - 17:19

Here is a really annoying issue that I had hoped version 4.0.2 had fixed. When entering notes with a MIDI interface every now and then MuseScore will add an extra note that has nothing to do with the note you just entered. For instance, I have note entry enabled, set to a half note and press the Eb4 to enter one note. It's not performed, it's just one note, yet it thinks it would be a good idea to add a C3 just after that despite my hand being nowhere near a C3.

Once it does that MIDI entry essentially becomes impossible until you close down MS4 and open it up again and even then, you can't tell how long before it'll next decide to hiccup out a random note and crash MIDI entry. The correct interface is still selected in preferences, the "Toggle MIDI input" option still has a tick next to it and resetting either of those makes no difference, the next note you enter will either superimpose on top of the note you last entered which worked as if forming a chord or if you place the cursor on the next position in the bar it just won't enter anything no matter where you try a note on the MIDI interface.

I haven't gone through existing threads, but surely this doesn't just happen to me? My interface is a M-Audio Oxygen Pro 61, so not a cheap knockoff interface from Wish. There's no telling what will trigger it and it can be on just about any instrument as far as I can tell. It's also not specific to a given piece, this has happened to me on more than one piece I have transcribed / composed.

Hopefully I have explained the issue clearly enough.
