Musescore not respecting dynamics

Occasionally, Musescore (4 on Windows 11) is ignoring dynamics, e..g playing a very loud chord when it's maked as pp. I tried 'resetting' the dynamics through the Properties tab (Playback - Velocity - Set to "0") but it makes no difference. Any ideas?
