How do I make one dynamic marker effect two staves?
Instead of having a marker per staff I'd like to just apply one marker for both. In example two, the marker only effects one staff, I'd like it to affect both.

The default behaviour for instruments that use more than 1 stave - e.g. a piano is that a dynamic will affect both staves. In v 3 it was possible to specify that a dynamic would affect only a single stave. However, this got broken in V4 and workarounds are now needed.
If your dynamic is only affecting one stave then you have probably added two separate instruments rather than adding a single piano using a grand staff of two staves, and indeed that is a workaround to allow different dynamics on different staves in version 4.
If you attach your score (.mscz file) rather than a picture of it someone can investigate further.
