spaces
i somehow accidentally created a giant space between two staves in a score and i can seem to figure out how to get rid of it or close it up. any suggestions?

Short of attaching your score (the best option) you can try:
1) Press Ctrl + A to select all, then Ctrl + R to reset.
2) Look at that giant space for any score element dragged way out of position.
2a) Put the score in continuous view and look for misplaced score elements.
