Fixing a spacing issue.

• May 10, 2023 - 04:58

I have been working on a choral arrangement and somehow on two pages the vertical spacing between the vocal parts increased, which then only allowed for one system on the page, adding additional pages. Since I have no idea what I did to precipitate the change, I also have no idea on how to revert it and make those pages match the rest of the score. A screen capture to compare the systems is included.

Hard to tell what is causing this. It might caused by a setting in the Format-->Style>Page. If the vertical justification of staves is enabled, it could cause this.

Please attach the score for further assistance.

Thanks, so this seems indeed to the result of the vertical justification.

In measure 37 -> 41 the is more space required between the staves. Most likely due to the lyrics and fermata.
This is making the required space "too much" to allow it to fit below the system on page 4.
As this is leaving more empty space in page 4, the staves are getting more empty space, according to the max allow distance setting in the style->page.

You can modify these settings to tweak and get the appearance you like without making the score smaller.
For instance, in Format->Style->Page, make these adjustments:
Min. system distance change from 8.5 -> 6
Max. system distance change from 32 -> 8
Max. staff distance change from 20 -> 8

This will make all pages to have two systems.

Another option it to change the Stave space setting (in Format->Page settings) from 0.064in to 0.063in.
Obvious this will make the score "size" a little bit smaller but still very readable.

Hope this helps.
