cannot stop extra notes from playing during midi out

I have a very simple problem I can't solve. I input a two-measure score and try to play it with MIDI out on an external synth.. Every time I play it, it has a time base appended to it with B in the first beat and A in the subsequent beats. This is in the MIDI output.

How do I turn this off? I can't find any mention of this in the documentation.

Windows 10. Version 4, newest download.

This only happens when playing MIDI directly to the output device. If I save the midi file and play it, the extra notes aren't part of that file.

This seems not to be associated with any MIDI instrument. It may be a "debugging write" that was left in the code?
