Electric guitar standard playback volume way too loud

Whenever I'm composing a piece it's always very unpleasant to click on any notes in my electric guitar staff. The bass, the horns, the piano, the strings... these are all varying levels of fine (as midi instruments go), but whenever the electric guitar rears up its always about 5 times as sharp and loud as the other instruments. Is there a way to lower the sample sound of the electric guitar permanently?
