flipping stem direction and making small notes for voice two

Using v.3 here. I have two verses. In the first verse, I have a quarter note on the word 'lie'. In the second verse, I would like to indicate somehow that there are two words and two notes to be sung in the same space. I tried putting eighth notes in voice two, but it erased the word and the quarter note. Everything I try screws it up.
