PROJECT LOST?

• Jun 22, 2023 - 08:39

I've been working on a project for a long time. When I tried to open it just now musescore instantly crashes. I then tried to open it in musescore 3 and it only shows a blank page. Is there any way to retrieve my file???? the version I opened in MS 3 is now only 1kb large, although I didn't save it in MS3. I have an older backup file that I've attached down bellow too. If there's any way to retrieve these files that would be amazing. I'm very very desperate .

the other file is suddenly only 1kb so i suspect it's gone? Maybe this older version could be restored. Would greatly appreciate any help. Im using this software professionally and if I lost all my work that would be a huge problem

Yes your are right.
The mscz file is a zipped folder, it contains an uncompressed mscx file, readable in a simple text editor. And this contains only the header block with a few basic tags. No notes, no score, no instruments. Just an almost empty title block.

Edit:
This can happen if you open a MuS 4 file with MuS 3 and then ignore the error message. You will get an empty sheet and if you then press 'Save' you will get such an empty file. Because it overrides the data from MuS 4.

So if you accidentally open a MuS 4 mscz file with MuS 3, don't press save!
It is different when you open the extracted MuS 4 mscx file with MuS3. Then press 'ignore' and in almost all cases the file will be opened and you can use it in MuS 3 and also save it in MuS 3 file format.
