Adding Instruments Through the Song

So, I'm writing sheet music for a musical, meaning many vocal parts come in and come out throughout the song. I've been wanting some vocal parts (the staves) to be present at some times and not at other times. I've been using hide empty staves, which is helpful, but then I can't add notes when I want them to come back into the song. How can I fix this?
