Altered Staff for 5 string violin

• Aug 14, 2023 - 13:08

I am trying to set music for the 5 string violin and would like to use the altered staff in the attached file. The system is the usual G-Clef, the top two lines of a bass clef separated by a not visible line corresponding to middle C. Is there a way to make this system in Musescore?

I can't answer your question, so I hope someone else will step in with a solution.

But I can suggest that in future you insert an image directly into your post as a .png or .jpg file. Then you can use the Insert option to make the image visible. Like this screenshot from your .odt file:

You can certainly fake it.

1 - add another stave to your violin instrument (Instruments->Violin->Add stave)
2 - use the Stave properties for the new staff to hide clef, key signature and time signature
3 - use a staff spacer to bring each system to the minimum distance - this happens to align with what you want!

If you're not using any other instruments in the score, you could set the staff distances via the Style dialogue. This would be more stable and require less work - but only works if you only have the one staff to work with!

Attached is an example score with the finished result.
