Modify Fine, Coda and Coda Variation to stop on a note instead of a measure
Basically the Fine, Coda, and Coda Variation should stop on the note it appears over. That would give the DC and DS more flexibility. As it is, the music will play until the next measure.
In a separate issue, even after the music stops, the cursor continues to move after the Fine, stopping after one or two measures. I don't know if that's by design or if it's a bug.

Thanks, and as per your suggestion I selected the note I wanted to stop on (mid C) , opened the palette, and selected a dotted barline. A warning box popped up saying that a barline could not be selected on the first note. So I selected the second note. A solid line appeared that went from the top to the bottom stave right after the first note (which I'll call the stop note). The Fine mark disappeared. So I selected the measure which was now a quarter note in size, and added the Fine mark back. I played it and it worked. So now, I wanted to change to solid barline to a dotted one. So I selected it and tried to delete it but it wouldn't delete. I tried to change the appearance of the line in the Inspector but it would not change. So I closed the file without saving it, and tried again. This time, I selected the second note after the stop note, and then tried adding a dotted barline. The dotted barline appeared but after the second note, and only on the top staff, not top to bottom like the first time. Then I deleted that barline, and selected the stop note. This time there was no warning box and it made the barline right after the note. But this time I could not select the single quarter note measure in order to add the Fine mark. Basically your suggestion worked one time, and never again. Something wicked is going on here. I'm closing Musescore, rebooting my computer (a Windows 10 desktop) and reopening Musescore, and then I'll try again. Will update as soon as I do this. The update will appear on this comment.

You need to split the measure not just add a bar line. The bar lines in the palette are just for show; they don't affect the length of the measure unless you add them while holding CTRL.

That's what I forgot to do, press CTRL while selecting the barline. The dotted barline still doesn't work when you press CTRL, only a single solid one appears. And the warning box has reappeared, so I have to select the second note, press CTRL and select any barline since they will all display as single solid. So now I selected the new barline and make it invisible on top and bottom staff, and then adjusted the position of the lower rest, but it still looks a little weird. I guess to come back to the main issue, how we can avoid doing all of these ugly hacks? I mean, after all, this is a feature request, a way to just position the Fine mark over the note I want without having to split/rinse/repeat. Thanks anyway, Mr. Fox and SteveBlower for your efforts and kind assistance.

Having added a solid barline, you can make it dotted by clicking on it to select it (or just leave it selected after adding it) and then click on the dotted barline in the palette (without holding CTRL this time). That should affect all the staves at the same time, (unless you hold SHIFT+CTRL to add it as a local bar line that is).
As a player, I would prefer a solid bar line, or if it is to split a bar at a fine marking, a double barline would be better still. But chacun à son goût.

Well, even if my son did have gout, which I doubt it but I'll check again, and be that as it may, I'd like to request a feature that would have the Fine do all that for you. Fine should be able to be placed above any note and the music should stop right at that note there like Fine intends, without you having to go through all of the above stuff. And I checked my son. No gout. Just a bunch of head lice. No biggie. We''l have them for dinner.
