MuseScore and USB audio?

Windows XP Media Edition V2002 SP3 0.9.5 2012

In my campaign to improve audio output from MuseScore I am trying to replace my El Cheapo Sigma Tel sound card with a professional USB audio interface from Behringer (UCA202). Previously, there was no problem with the Sigma Tel audio except for the extraordinarily low fidelity. The Behringer interface works well with Audacity (wav and mp3), Timidity(midi) and Windows media player (all kinds of formats). But MuseScore seems to think no sound device is installed. Are there some settings I need to adjust to make MuseScore work with USB audio, or is this just a bug? Incidentally, this problem also occurs in the latest pre-release.
