Improved sounds library/plugin, notation system for drum set/percussion

• Dec 19, 2023 - 03:22

As a percussionist myself, the currently present sound set and notation system for the untuned percussion within musescore is difficult to use. Separate parts for crash cymbals, suspended cymbals, etc. are not intuitive, not to mention incorrect instrument names - crash cymbal is suspended cymbal and vice versa.

Checking the forums lead me to a link to a "major percussion overahaul", which simply lead to the musescore 4.2 page, which has not contained any percussion features.

The main issues are:
- Midi instrument drums sound poor, do not support brush sounds.
- Incorrect orchestral instrument names
- Inability to change which lines of percussion stave are linked to which instruments - usually, this assignment differs from score to score, would be most convenient if it could be assigned easily through the bottom menu which appears usually
- Open hi-hat is notated identically to a closed hi-hat - use articulations to determine whether it is open or closed
- If possible, treating a bar of slashes as a repeat last bar would be very useful for jazz notation, or possibly a way to invisibly notate what happens in a slash bar for both good playback and notation.
