flat and natural symbols in special palette disappeared

• Dec 24, 2023 - 07:11

I was using the special characters palette to type the flat symbol into a text field. It worked fine a few times, then the it and the natural symbol were replaced in the palette with what appear to be rectangular place-holders. I still get the symbols if click that rectangle, but the flat symbol takes up three spaces instead of one. There is an extra space both before and after the symbol. There's no way to delete the extra spaces without deleting the desired symbol as well. The flat symbol itself is the correct size.

I've tried closing MuseScore, cleaning files, cookies, etc., then restarting the computer, but the problem remains.

Any thoughts? Your help would be much appreciated!

Well now, THIS is interesting: I just copied the score to my other computer and opened it in MuseScore--same version, thinking I could edit there, then copy it back to the first machine. I should say first that when I tried the same thing on a score on computer no.2, it was fine. When I opened the score i brought over from computer no. 1, it had the same problem! Odd.

It leads me to think that there's nothing wrong with the palette or with the program. Maybe it's that the file has been corrupted.

I shall try re-making that score from scratch and see what happens.

OK! I exported it as A MusicXML file, and did the same thing. It worked perfectly. All good Everything is normal. My silly old computer just got that file messed up. Why, we'll never know.

 Well, thanks anyway, friends.

Hard to say, and it doesn't matter now. It was only that one score that had the problem, and I replicated that, which made the problem go away. There's been no sign of this happening anywhere else. I suppose it'll remain a mystery.

 Thanks, anyway.
