Alignment of lyrics

• Jan 5, 2024 - 03:50

I'm building a lead sheet illustration to display on large screens. Readability from a long distance is important. I can't get the lyrics to align on a horizontal line. I have tried positioning the syllables with the mouse. That is tedious and inconsistent. I read a suggestion to use Format-Reset shapes and Positions. I have tried all the alignment buttons in the properties. I have tried adjusting margins. No joy so far. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Go to Format -> Style -> Score. There is a section 'Autoplace' where you can set the vertical align range. It should be set on the value 'System'.
Then select all lycris (use select all similar), go to the properties and use the circle arrow with the cross inside to reset it to the default value.

My text properties look different. I'm using version OS: Windows 10 Version 2009 or later, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 4.2.0-233521124, revision: eb8d33c. I found a reset button under the ellipsis.
After following your instructions, I didn't see a change until I selected the A with an underscore line. That did align the lyrics. Thanks for your help.

Yes, the property windows look different in MuS 3 vs. MuS 4. I can't use MuS4. For exact details regarding MuS 4 you should search in the handbook of version 4.
However, the menus are often similar, but usually often accessible in different ways.

Depending which style was set in Format -> Styles -> Lyrics, the button "Reset to style default" may work differently. I recommend to go in that menue and set the correct alignment type to be save for future use.
Under the ellipsis there should also be a 'S' which sets your current selection as default - it has the same effect as doing it in the format menu

Thanks for your help. I have been studying the handbook. I have been through it nearly cover to cover. MuS has a lot of terminology that I am having to get acquainted with. Finding the menus and selections in the app that correspond to the instructions has been hard work but I'm getting there. MuS looks pretty capable. I just need to figure out how to do the things I want to do. It is kind of like learning a new CAD or DAW app.
