Playback Freezes and Buffer Size Greyed Out - Solved
General Issue:
My installation of MuseScore 4 has a problem with playback. When I go to play a score (either by using the space bar or the menu button), the program freezes and needs to be restarted.
In addition, I tried to increase MuseScore's buffer size through the Preferences menu, but the option was greyed out (no buffer size appeared in the initial option menu). When I clicked on the menu to change the size, all of the standard buffer options appear, but if I choose any option MuseScore crashes and shuts down.
Technical details:
I am using the latest AppImage version of MuseScore (version 4.2.1)
I am using Fedora 39
The problem appears on two different laptops
The problem only started after I upgraded my laptops this last Friday (I do not know which parts of the system upgraded, but I can send you my logs if you tell me how to access them). I think that alsa may have upgraded.
The problem does not occur with the same MuseScore AppImage version in Ubuntu 22.04 (used through a Gnome Boxes virtual machine)
The problem does not occur with the same MuseScore AppImage version in Windows 10 (used through a Gnome Boxes virtual machine)
The problem does not occur using the FlatPak version or the Fedora provided version of MuseScore
Steps to Reproduce the Problem:
Use a fully upgraded Fedora 39 system
Open latest AppImage version of MuseScore 4 and enter new notes or open existing score
Press Play
Expected Behavior:
MuseScore 4 should play score.
Actual Behavior:
MuseScore 4 freezes.
