musescore 3 sound suddenly stopped working

hi, for some reason i cannot playback. this has happened before, except in those instances it somehow fixed itself. not sure what's going on now, i've tried shutting down and restarting; preferences-I/O-restart audio and midi devices; checked in play panel if anything is muted. metronome also won't sound.
