Custom Time Signatures?

• Apr 7, 2024 - 02:46

Hi all,

I am using Musescore 4 on MacOS and for some reason I can't figure out how to make custom time signatures. The handbook says to click on "more" in the time signatures palette but this is not an option for me. When I click on the three dots and then "Palette properties" it does nothing.

I want to have alternating bars of 7/8 and 10/8. I've been able to get 10/8 by using 5/4 and then editing it to read as 10/8, and this is fine, but then I have to change it for each part and every time I want to switch back to 10/8. Is there an easier way to do this?

Also, is it possible to change the beaming for each part in time signature properties or do I have to do it one at a time?

Thank you so much!

Does your Time Signatures palette look like this?

You will probably not have all of these time signatures included. I have simply added MOST of the list to my palette. And yours may be in a different order than mine. I ordered them alphabetically (though I'm coming to the realization that this is not the best order :-).

The key thing I'm wondering about is the More button. This is where it's SUPPOSED to be :-) (I'm not exactly sure what to do if the palette is present but not the More button.) Because on the More dialog is where you can "Create Time Signature" to create your 10/8.

Beaming is controlled by the time signature, so you set that up with the time signature when you create it.

The following two links are the version 4 Handbook entries for Time Signatures and Beams. Hopefully they will answer your questions.
