Lyric input hyphen, underscore and space not working

I'm using a custom German keyboard layout under macOS via Karabiner Elements. When I type an underscore, a hyphen or a space during lyrics input, they are simply added to the lyrics instead of skipping to the next syllable. I feel like this might be tied to Musescore not reading the actual key value that was sent by the system. If I type an underscore, keycode.info gives me the following:

Does anyone have a similar issue and or fix for this?
This cannot only be a neo2 issue, since I also have this problem when using the german standard qwertz layout. In this case, the space bar works though.
