bar measure lengths
The time signature is 2/4 and i am trying to write in a bar that is 2.5 beats. How can I make this work?

Those are both 2/4 you have a triplet on beat 2 of bar 1 and on beats 1 and 2 of bar 2.

Steve is correct: both measures shown in your screenshot have 2 beats, not 2.5. His suggestion is the correct response to this.
