Muse Strings dynamics playback

• Sep 4, 2024 - 08:50

So, check out this piece of mine, I suggest just soloing the strings. I have added pretty clear dynamics to the whole piece (in my opinion), but there are many places where the hairpins aren't executed well and when the next dynamic comes, the sound suddenly 'jumps' to the new dynamic and it is very noticeable and weird, instead of being smooth. I thought this was to do with the anchor points where the dynamics are attached to. This was the problem in the beginning of the piece and I solved it by adjusting those anchors. However, later on this solution does not apply (and most of those anchors later on are exactly where they're supposed to be).
Sometimes, inside a mezzopiano, for example.. I also write <>, by which I mean to tell the program to just do a gentle lift and release in dynamics, not necessarily reaching mezzoforte in the middle. Sometimes, there's a slightly bigger gap between the hairpins, like this: < >, and by this I mean: lift a little, maintain the dynamic and finally come back again to the starting point.

Anyway, how can I get rid of those sudden dynamic jumps / shifts? What is the solution?

If you have to explain what you mean to us, then how is poor MuseScore supposed to know what you want as playback?

I think you can perhaps resolve your problem by placing intermediate (hidden) dynamics between the cresc. hairpin and the dim. hairpin.
For example: Violin 1, measure 8, beat 2 (minim/half note) needs a dynamic greater than the p which follows immediately on beat 4;

Bear in mind that the entire system for dynamics handling was changed with the release of Mu 4.0, and it's still a "work in progress". So you can't expect perfection yet.
