Horrible playback

• Sep 18, 2024 - 21:52

Ever since update 4.4.1, musescore has been the buggiest program i have ever used. I cant even describe how horrible the playback is. I wish i could upload a video of how bad these sounds are, but this forum isnt even allowing mp4 to be uploaded to it. The playback is not only extremely slowed but also in a higher pitch and uses some disgusting vibrato sounds in the background. The problem is happening for the default sounds and not just the downloadable sounds from muse hub. I've tried reinstalling the program and updating the muse sounds from muse hub and nothing has changed. Genuinely very unimpressed with musescore, been using it for years and i've never experienced such a buggy program. Super disappointing.

My computer can absolutely handle the audio playback. I have a I7-8700K CPU, 32 GBS of RAM and Windows 10. So i dont believe thats the problem...
I've also found out that increasing the buffer sound does clean up the audio. Though the more you put up the buffer sound, it makes the playback even faster and still continues in probably twice the higher octave.

Could you please attach diagnostic files (Diagnostic -> Save diagnostic files)? Your issue strongly reminds me of https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/17648, which happens whenever your device tries to use more than 2 audio channels (for example, 4 channels or surround audio). This issue (the same bug) has a video: https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/24535. Do you have the same distorted sound? If yes, as a temporary workaround, you can try to force the system to use stereo sound. Anyway, we're going to fix this in 4.4.3

Having looked at your diagnostic files, I can confirm that this is the same bug. You can try forcing stereo in the speaker setup dialog. Here is an article on how you can access this dialog: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/windows_accessing_the_windows_sound…

If that doesn't help, you can download an older MuseScore version (where it works for you) from this page:
https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/releases

This issue is on our radar, and we're going to fix it in 4.4.3

Hi oliviawojciec1,

Can you try our latest development build from https://musescore.org/en/nightly-builds please?
(Nightly builds for Windows) It contains the fix for surround audio

You can take the latest portable build (4.4.3-242700950) - MuseScoreNightly-latest-4.4.3-x86_64-portable.exe from 2024-09-26 10:16

Thanks!
