4.4.2: Virtual Instruments do not play anymore

• Sep 20, 2024 - 14:00

I just updated to version 4.4.2 and now my own virtual instruments don't play anymore. I did not have this problem with the former 4.4.x versions. Does anyone else have this issue?

I do not know which computer you are using and which OS. I use Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on a PC and MuseScore Studio 4.4.2.
I have created my own Castanets instrument in two versions, one as percussion table with 6 sounds (Drum) and other as a like piano "piched" instrument.
When I create a new score, even if I use my 2 different castanets instruments, first I have to open the Mixer and in the field "Sound" -> MS Basic switch to "Soundfonts" and then when the list with all the instruments appears, then select the sound I will. In my case it takes a long time until this list appears.
My instruments in .xml-Format and .sf2-Format are loaded under:

/home/userp/Dokumente/MuseScore4/Data_extern_instru/my_castanets.xml
/home/userp/Dokumente/MuseScore4/SoundFonts/Cast_con_3L_Schlag_7Notas_2024.sf2
/home/userp/Dokumente/MuseScore4/SoundFonts/Concert_Castanets_ver2.sf2
Once they are registered in the mixer, the score can be play without any problem.

In case your instruments are store on the right place and recognized by the MuseScore 4.4.2 mixer, I do not know which is the problem in your case. Sorry!

Thank you for your reply and the information you gave.
I will explain the problem I have in more detail. I have a couple of external sound libraries that I want to use in MS. That means I don't use "Sound" -> MS Basic". Instead I use "Sound" -> VST3 and then I choose the sound library I want use. After that the user interface of that library will normally open and I can select the specific instrument I want to use. That worked well so far. But after updating to 4.4.2 the instruments I engaged in that manner will not play anymore. Also, the user interface of the external sound library does not open anymore.

Because I was curious about your arguments, I was testing also a VST3 library which I already use without any problems. My VST3 library is stored as directory under /MuseScore4/Soundfonts. The VST3 directory contains many subdirectories with the different families of instruments. Each of these instruments family contains separated files in .sf2 Format for every instrument. Perhaps the format of your VST3 library is no more accepted by the MS 4.4.2 version or perhaps under MS 4.4.2 the VST3 must be stored somewhere else?.
I am very sorry that I can not help You. I have added some screenshots of my installation in case they can help you
