Tempo primo
I have a score set at 60bpm. Then I have a rall... that reduces to 45bpm (correct). Then I have a 'tempo primo' but that plays at 120bpm, not 60bpm. What's going on. Could there be a hidden marking somewhere?

There could be a hidden marking but no-one here is going to be able to help you find it unless you post the score.
Or perhaps something else is going on. But again you are on your own unless you post the score.
Big hint ... post the score.

You've got two tempos in the first bar. The tempo is set at quarter note = 60 but the adagio molto rubato is set to 120. I'm guessing the tempo primo jumps back to the value of the adagio.

Thanks - I deleted the adagio... and it worked as expected. I did not realise the adagio had its own temp assumption.

Or, you could set he adagio to 60 via the Properties tab.

That's what I did - thanks
I also am wondering why a marking of "a tempo" or "tempo primo" always defaults to 120bpm, instead of "simply" going back to either the most recent tempo setting, or to the first one in a score?
Also, once I have manually adjusted any given tempo marking (in the properties of the tempo palette) to whatever value I want, why is my desired value then ignored/overwritten again by the current default value the next time I use that marking? That is, how can I override/define and save MY desired tempo markings, so that they always come up elsewhere, either in the same score, or a new score?

As you can see from the responses above, it doesn't "always defaults to 120 bpm". OP had another tempo marking that the a tempo marking was going back to. It seems a reasonable assumption that you do too. If you haven't already resolved this, post your score (the .MSCZ file) so that we can take a look. Be sure to indicate exactly where in the score the various pieces are.
