Arranging/composing
Would it be possible to add numbers to each bar whilst composing as it very easy to get lost. If one could turn on this feature to compose and then turn it off when printing I think that would be very usefull. Could this be done?

Yes. See the Handbook (measure numbering):

Format / Style / Measure numbers. Check the initial Measure numbers checkbox (this turns measure numbers on), then select from the various options.
Also, when any part of the score is selected, look at the lower left corner of the window. You should see something like
Note; Pitch: D3; Duration: Quarter; Voice: 1; Measure: 5; Beat 3: Staff 3 (Baritone)
This also helps you identify exactly where you are. It's important to remember that it shows the location of whatever is selected, not what is currently displayed on screen.
