Tambourine
When I select tambourine as an instrument, it adds the proper staff, but when I try to input rhythms in the same way I do pitched notes, it will not enter. I have read the link to the percussion tutorial, but it does not address inputting tambourine as its own instrument.
Any advice?

There's no difference between tambourine and any other percussion instrument.
Click on the tambourine stave. Press N to enter input mode. At this point, you will see the following in the bottom left corner of the MuS screen:
This section will identify what letter name to use to input music on this instrument. Some percussion instruments use different letter names. Others use multiple letter names for different sounds of a given percussion instruments (like a high/low wood block) or for different percussion instruments (like a drumset)
Press 5 to set the duration to quarter notes. Type A four times and it will enter four quarter notes into the Tambourine staff. Press 4 to set the duration to eighth notes. Type A eight times and it will enter eight eighth notes into the next measure.
