Loadable Shorcuts

• Feb 21, 2010 - 12:30

Hi,

I have been using sib/fin for years, and after discovering this great sw, I've found that there are many keyboard shorcuts like the others.

As I've found that it's pretty much customizable, It would be great to enable MuseScore to load that shorcut table from an external file, using XML format, for example. In this way, it would be easy to distribute Finale or Sibelius' shorcuts in the main sw distribution, making the transition easier to those of us that have been using fin or sib for years.

Just my two cents.

Regards, and congrats to all the developer community.

Indeed there are good reasons to do so. But I can think of a couple others to don't do it.

For the pros, instead of using these loadable shortcuts to mimic other software packages, it could be good to provide different shortcuts for different keyboard layouts. For example on my french keyboard, Shift + 2,3,4 etc... does not work.

For the cons:

  1. MuseScore has its own input method. This method is different than the Finale one (as far as I know) and even if it's more close to Sibelius, it's not the same neither. Having loadable shortcuts customized for users of these packages may raise false expectation. Having a selectable "note input method" could be a solution, but looks like a nightware to implement
  2. By disrupting the new user, you force him to understand how the software works and adapt him to the way the software has been conceived.
