Strange schreeching tone
Very recently, MuseScore 2.0 began to create a very irritating and high-pitched tone. I've tried modifying everything I can, but to no avail. Playback doesn't get rid of it, and in general, playback doesn't work at all!

Have you tried with http://musescore.org/en/node/35956 ?
My first port of call on this would be the synthesiser page to check that volume isn't turned up too high.
