I have just installed Musescore2 into UbuntuStudio 1404 and the process was very straightforward.
The full formula that you should have added to the software sources in ubuntu is, without the quotes :
"deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/mscore-ubuntu/mscore-stable/ubuntu trusty main"
If you get a message about 'unauthenticated sources', you most probably didn't import the signing key. Then you should input the PPA 's gpa signing key (ID 0x3a258030 - the fingerprint is provided on the launchpad page for this PPA). Use the Authentication tab in the dialogue box where you entered the PPA software address.
You can also use a terminal - the procedure is explained if you click the 'What is this?' link against the signing key ID on the PPA launchpad page.
Then open Synaptic Package Manager , reload, select musescore. You will see version 2 listed, mark it for update. All dependencies will be listed and you click to agree to mark them too and then click 'apply'.
The whole process took about 15 minutes.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for help so far.
i have entered the software source with deb at the front of the address.
in terminal I ran :
sudo apt-get update
then
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 3A258030
and recieved this message:
"
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 3A258030
Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --homedir /tmp/tmp.mrqzAEP006 --no-auto-check-trustdb --trust-model always --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --primary-keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/gwibber-daily-ppa.gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 3A258030
gpg: requesting key 3A258030 from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: key 3A258030: public key "Launchpad PPA named mscore-stable for MuseScore Maintainers" imported
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: imported: 1 (RSA: 1)
"
so I figured I now have the correct software source and the ppa key?
I have tried to install musescore and have the same error?

I followed this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YUnpPEppTA
and entered this as a software source :
ppa:mscore-ubuntu/mscore-stable
All seems to be running now.
I can't believe i didn't notice it before.
But I hope my experience may help others!
