Jack Server help needed

• Jul 11, 2010 - 05:22

I've gathered that only Jack Server is the way that I can use MIDI playback in Musescore. I downloaded a copy of Jackserver from their website and used the WIndows OS Installer version. I've also downloaded pkunzip to unpack it, when I do so, I get a .OUT file, which is not correct. Can someone help me on how to install it in WIndows Vista. I once had it in a copy of XP, but that Hard Drive crashed and I now have Vista.

Thanks.

I'd like to have playback on the MIDI keyboard, both for sound and recording and in that the new keyboard I have shows finger placement on the keys, allowing me to verify playability and chord placement. The soundfont is good, just not the full sound I'm looking for.

I have used Musescore 0.9.5 and have just downloaded 6.1. I think Musescore is great - much better than some of the other score writers I have tried. At the moment, I am using Windows 7 Starter. I have read your notes about installing Jack, I have downloaded jack-1.9.5.tgz.tar. I have run it through 7-zip, and it only seems to produce one file which is named jack-1.9.5 I cannot open it just by clicking on it, and don't understand the reference to jack-1.9.5\bin\windows. Is this to be created in in C: root, and if not, where? I would also like to hear my results on my Yamaha keyboard. Thanks in advance

You are quite right of course, in fact I am at the moment using an 8Mb SF2 which I have had for several years - came with a sound card I no longer use. If I want to hear it on my keyboard, I can do so by converting the output file to a midi file and downloading it to the Yamaha, but that is not the same as hearing the music in real-time as I write it, as the instruments are not going to sound precisely the same in SF2 as on theYamaha. In Preferences, I can see the Yamaha input, but not the output as I would on other notation programs I have used.
If the truth be told, my problem is that if I see there is some feature available in a piece of software, I can't resist fnding out if I can make it work - how sad, eh!
