Note entry anomaly
Suppose one has a measure with a half note followed by two quarter notes. If the half note is selected and "." is pressed, the half note turns into a dotted half note, as expected, but the first quarter note disappears unexpectedly. Shouldn't an attempt to obtain the dotted half note in this case be flagged as an error because the last half of the measure is already filled in? It seems to me a user should be required to eliminate the first quarter note by changing it to a rest (if that is what is intended) before the change in the half note can be permitted. Or is this a matter of "well, it may not make sense, but that's just the way the software works". Or is this a bug?

You change the half note into a dotted half note. MuseScore has to find the place in the measure to put the beat you add. For the moment, there is no way of shift the music, or insert music, so MuseScore removes one note. It seems expected and does not require to be flagged as an error. It's often not very user friendly to "flag as error".

The problem is that when trying to "steal the time" from a succeeding definition, one gets into the problems noted in http://musescore.org/en/node/8035. I believe it's better for the user to make a place for an altered definition than for the software to try to guess what needs to be done. After all, striking the "." key might have just been an attempt to press the "alt" key. So you say that a user needs to remember that such a mistake may be the cause his work disappearing?
