"Darklight:The journey to perfection" for concert band

• Jan 8, 2011 - 16:19

Hello to all fellow composers! This is a piece that I'm currently undertaking as a personal project. This is the opening with a few harmonisation parts although am a little stuck with the end chord for the the first fermata. The paradoxical title refers to our own imperfections and potential, mixed together into what we would call ourselves. Forgive me if you get a little lost, I'm not good with explanations.
Anyway, please give me some feedback so that I may make it a little better.

I really like the melody you open with (the oboe is playing it). Something to try might be to build up to that moment, sort of have some "movement music" to get us from the first note to that nice melody. Maybe some variations on it, part of the same melody but with longer notes or in a different rhythm. Lead us to it, like a shepherd leading lambs he loves.

At first I thought you were stuck for a chord on the second fermata. I missed seeing the first fermata. For the second ferm. two possibilities present themselves to me: Bminor9 and bD13. As to the one you asked about (the first one), some kind of G, Em7, or A7 would seem to be the order of the day.
