Strange drop in tempo over a bar
In the attached file at bar 35 while playing the tempo drops and then suddenly revives in the next bar???
I've tried applying tempo text to the bar to no avail...

The tempo doesn't change. You do, however, have an unusual combination of note lengths.
But what's that in measure 36? A triplet within a triplet?
For me the whole measure 36 and the following measures seem corrupt. e.g. when I delete measure 36 strange things happen (the first note of measure 37 also disappears).
Perhaps it would be better to delete these measures and reenter them.
I think you are correct in that some corruption has crept in (perhaps triplets were copied and pasted?) since 37 doesn't have a full 4 beats to start with.
