Save to wave distorted or too loud

Have gone through the Forums in search of the answer and cannot find it.
Tried reducing Reverb and Chorus in each section.
Is there a way to modify the wave output to -2db ?
Perhaps a small modification of the file that actually converts the score to wave?

I can modify the score to play at a lower volume but then I cannot hear it very well when played from the score.
Also tried creating a modified backup of the original score which seemed to work but this is an extra step that I don't always remember to do.

Am capable of modifying files once I know where to look.
