MuseScore 0.9.6 beta 2 released

• Mar 2, 2010 - 12:22

MuseScore 0.9.6 beta 2 for Windows and Mac is available for download at http://prereleases.musescore.org/
Please note that it is advised to uninstall MuseScore first before you install 0.9.6 beta 2.

What has changed

  • Many bug fixes
  • New F keys for Mac OS
  • The installation path has changed from "C:\Program Files\MuseScore 0.9" to "C:\Program Files\MuseScore".
  • The Windows installation file is 25% smaller in size due to a changed compression setting
  • The available handbooks in pdf have been updated. There are a couple of new handbooks in the pipeline which still need a final check: Hungarian, Romanian, Russian. These will be included in the 0.9.6 Release Candidate.

When will 0.9.6 be released?

The release candidate will be released when all critical bugs are fixed. Until then, updates to translations are highly welcome. So head over to http://translate.musescore.org/ and help completing your language for 0.9.6.

0.9.6 will be released when at least one release candidate has proven to be stable.

You're preferences settings between the versions may compete with each other if you are using two versions of MuseScore at the same time. It can be done but be aware that you can have problems. For example if you install 0.9.6 beta without uninstalling 0.9.5 then you won't have auto-save turned on by default (because it is respecting your previous settings), if you turn on auto-save for the beta it also turns on auto-save for 0.9.5 and you may get error messages and other problems because auto-save in 0.9.5 doesn't work correctly.

If you want to test the latest features but still keep your stable version installed it may be better to try a nightly build since they are designed to run along side a stable version: //prereleases.musescore.org/windows/nightly/

Just to say well done on the 0.9.6! I know it's not perfect, but I'm still impressed. Can't wait until I'm making enough money to make a small donation.

The Cut button doesn't work, as far as I can tell.

However, the major problem in cutting/copying is that tempo/dynamics text and crescendo/decrescendos are not copied as well.

It poses a problem: say, for instance, one wants to add a bar right at the beginning. One would have to copy the notes, add the new bar in, paste and then do all the dynamics/tempo text and/or crescendos/decrescendos.

Is there any way, at least, to insert a bar and get the formatting for the rest to move along as well?

Thanks.

There are a few problems with accidentals in 0.9.6 beta 2 but I think they are mostly fixed in the latest nightly builds. The best way to report bugs is to post them as a new topic in the forums and give exact steps that consistently demonstrate the problem.
