sorry I've forgotten all the things ... I'm a IMac users I've just installed the last version RC ... how can I set the instruments list and where ... because I need to ear the notes during writing the score ...

I guess you mean the Soundfont? Go to Display->Synthesizer. If you just install MuseScore, it should work out of the box. Can you tell us which path you see in Display->Synthesizer ?
Did you rename the musescore package perhaps? As lasconic says, it should work out of the box.

yes I mean the soundfont... anyway here it is the snapshot requested
on my desk there is the file FluidR3_GM.sf2
is it for Mac or for Window ? or for both?

The soundfont path is in DIsplay->Synthesizer on musescore 0.9.6 rc1
