Recent documents not showing properly
I am using the nightly build on Linux .
I save all my work regularly .
When I close and re-open musescore, after rebooting, in the
File -Open Recent
dialog I see random names such as
scjd3863.mscz (this is/was saved under a different name, Minuet in G major)
and a document I was was working on did not show, had to manually find and load the second document.

Have you had crashes lately? That filename looks like an autosave, maybe like after a crash you chose the "restore previous session" option when offered.

Yes I had a crash, that might explain the unusual name.
But it does not explain the missing scores.

Well, it could, if those scores were only opened in the session that crashed. I believe the recent list is only updated on clean exit.

Sorry if I was not clear.
I had a clean exit last night, saved the document I was working on just before I exited.
Today when I booted, the score I was working on last night was not on the recent documents list.

I don't suppose you can reproduce this and post the steps?
