combining flags on first and second voice.
I am using 9.6. When I join the flags of eighth notes in a cord where the notes are in different voices, I cannot get the changes to save. When I reopen the file, the no changes remain. I have tried re-saving the score with a different title but still cannot save the changes.

I'm not sure what you mean. Can you share an example or picture with step-by-step instructions?
Can you tell me how to take a picture of the area of concern? What I have is a chord with, for instance, an "e" and a "g". Each are in a different voice so the beams, I call them flags, are in different places on the stem. When I move them to match, the move is not save when I close the the file and then reopen it. Thank you so much for the help.

To take a picture of the screen see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screenshot
Even better would be the actual MuseScore file, refer to the measure number.

This link is to the score which I saved online. Note in both the second and third measures. In the treble staff the beams should be one beam and in the bass clef the stem direction change did not save.

If you really don't want the stem on the second voice, don't put the note and put a rest and make it invisible? Or just right click on the stem and set invisible.

If it is helpful, I have the same tune on file.
