rhythmic notations on bar disappeared!
Hi, I'm extremely new to this software.
I have worked on a piece the last four days. Yesterday, in the middle of operation suddenly the entire rhythmic notation on the screen disappeared--only the words 'concert pitch' still existed. The letter 'N" for 'Note entry mode', and all the 32nd, 16th, 8th, 1/4, notes, etc. are gone!
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Did you save it previous to it disappearing?

yes i did save my music so that's not too big a concern. but I just can't write anything new anymore.
My compputer did try to shut the program down a few times but later relented and let me restore. but the disappearance of the musescore notation bar is so weird. I can manually key in notes but only in quarter notes, it seems. Anyone experienced the same before/ What to do?

What I would do is read through the handbook:http://musescore.org/en/handbook.

For instructions on entering notes of different lengths, see note entry in the handbook.
When you say the rhythmic notations disappeared, do you mean they are greyed out or completely missing? From the main menu go to Display and see if there is a check mark next to "Note Input". If not then go ahead and select it. Does this solve the problem you are having?
Can you share a screenshot of MuseScore.

Thank you for all the comments from everyone. I have good news--my son took a look and clicked something. All the notations came back again. Hoorah!
I'm not too sure what he did to make them come back but may be he did what you suggested--went to 'Display' and checked the ''Note-Input' button.
Anyway, I can write again.
I do find the note entry system tedious but since this is the first music software I ever use i have no other software to compare with. I just wished that there would be a simpler way I can delete notes/rests, or empty out an entire measures without seeing those annoying rests around.
Thanks anyway.

The rests are there because Musescore conforms to Standard Musical Notation norms. The rests give an indication of the actual time scheme of the bar.

try to reinstall musescore
ph
It looks like a severe problem on your computer, not related to MuseScore.
